You can use the Maps & Reference page to search for maps and reference articles and topic overviews using a variety of options; alternatively, you can use the Browse feature below the search form to navigate to the full text of items using the table of contents of the relevant source books or a browseable list of topic overviews.
The Maps & Reference search form allows you to precisely search the maps & reference content in History Study Centre.
To conduct a search, type your search terms (individual words or phrases) into the keyword search box. Optionally, you may narrow the search by item title, limit it to material of a biographical nature or particular resources e.g. Chadwyck-Healey Atlas of World History.
Any records containing the words you typed will be displayed on the Results page.
Note: In the search box, all terms are treated by default as if they were combined using the Boolean operator AND. Certain common words and symbols such as a, an, he, if etc. are excluded from searches; searches on words such as these are likely to take a long time and produce a large number of possibly irrelevant matches. These words are known as stopwords; you can view a complete list of stopwords here.
You may select one or more resources on the Maps & Reference search form using the expandable list; all resources are selected by default. Click the Show/Hide link to show/hide the full list of resources. To de-select a resource click the relevant checkbox. To deselect all resources listed under a heading click the checkbox for the relevant heading.
Note that if you de-select all resources, History Study Centre will find no results for your search terms.
Note: Keyboard users can use their tab key to move from field to field, and spacebar to select & de-select categories.
The Maps & Reference search form allows you to restrict or expand the search by using Boolean and proximity operators, expand the search to include related meanings and alternative spellings, or search for variations on search terms using truncation, and specify exact matching. Please see the Search Tips help page for more information on complex searching.
You can use the Browse Maps & Reference feature below the search form to navigate to items using the table of contents of the relevant source books or a browseable list of topic overviews. Click the Browse a Table of Contents for each Maps & Reference sourcebooklink to view a list of publication titles on the Browse Maps & Reference page.
Click a publication title on the Browse Maps & Reference page to browse the table of contents for a particular sourcebook and view the full text. You can also find out more about a sourcebook by clicking the About link following each title.
Alternatively, you can click the Browse Topic Overviews link to view a list of Topic Overview titles sorted alphabetically by section on the Browse Topic Overviews page. Click a title to go to the full text.
